This artfully crafted silver plate comes from the Indonesian region of Djokja/Yogya on Java and was made between 1920 and 1949 .
Typical of these works is the black/brown/gray patina , which was deliberately applied to highlight the lotus decoration . Many pieces also display the characteristic hammer-effect technique on the smooth surfaces. In contrast, more recent works usually have mirror-like surfaces without patina.
The silver was primarily made from 800-grade alloys , sometimes with lower purities down to sterling. Initially, Indonesian silver was used, and later, melted silver coins were also used.
The plate is thus a classic piece of Djokja silverware , which is still valued today for its elaborate decoration and traditional craftsmanship. It is possible that it was originally part of a smoking set , which was commonly made at that time.
An authentic collector's item that impresses with its craftsmanship and distinctive decorative tradition.
